The resumption of the 2010 feeding activity was warmly welcomed by the children and parents of selected depressed areas in Marikina City on April 10, 2010. This signals the start of weekly feeding activities.
At the break of dawn, six (6) large cauldrons of piping-hot meals are being cooked in time for delivery to the feeding areas. Today, it is chicken porridge. In the succeeding Saturdays, it could be meat or chocolate porridge. Sandwiches and fruit juices are also served in the feeding centers. At times it could be pasta or noodles.
Preferably, children ages 3 years to 12 years old are encouraged to join the feeding time for it is these ages that good nutrition must be met. Though it is only supplementary feeding, FMPI hopes that the humble bowl of good food will nourish a child for the day. Each feeding center is served with two (2) delicious hot cauldrons each of soupy meals except for Baybay Sapa wherein there is a greater number of children to be fed.
One hundred (100) children is the average number of children-beneficiaries per activity but it has been observed that as the morning wears on, more children stand in line to get their share. It is also interesting to note even adults partake too.
Eight feeding coordinators and one driver are ably supervised by Mrs. Carmencita J. Dario assited by Ms. Leny Sanuco of the Children’s Ministry.
The weekly feeding is anxiously looked forward to by the children of these feeding centers. We support the government’s program of good nutrition for underprivileged children of the community. For in our own way, we believe that we have done our humble share for the community!
